Why solar panels need professional care

It's not just about dust

01

Algarve & Saharan dust

Most years bring several Saharan dust events, fine desert dust carried north from Africa, usually February to April. It's fine enough that a light rain often can't fully rinse it away.

02

Pollen & organic debris

The Algarve's long flowering season means pollen settles on panels for months at a time. Left long enough, it can bond to the glass rather than simply sit on it.

03

Bird droppings

Unlike an even layer of dust, droppings create a concentrated, opaque patch, the kind of localised shading linked to disproportionate performance loss on the affected cell.

04

Coastal exposure

Properties nearer the coast pick up fine salt particulate, which combines with dust and moisture into a film that often needs a proper clean rather than a rinse.

A common question

But doesn't the rain clean them?

Rain can help. It doesn't do the whole job.

Think about your car after an Algarve rain shower. The loose surface dust may move, but once the water dries you're often left with marks, mineral spots and the dirt that was already bonded to the surface. Solar panels sit outside in exactly the same conditions, without windscreen wipers and without anyone rinsing them down afterward.

There's a practical reason rain isn't a full clean: ordinary rainwater still carries dissolved minerals. When it evaporates off a hot panel surface, those minerals can be left behind as a light film, the same reason cleaning professionals use purified water rather than a hose.

Our method

How we actually clean your panels

Why we use pure water

Ordinary tap water carries dissolved minerals. When it evaporates off a warm panel, those minerals can leave a light film or spotting behind. Our pure-water system removes those minerals before the water touches the panel, so it dries naturally, residue-free.

Why no harsh chemicals

Detergents and glass cleaners can leave their own residue, which, like mineral spotting, can attract more dust over time. Panel manufacturers generally recommend plain or purified water. We don't use anything else.

Why specialist brushes

Solar glass has a coating designed to maximise light transmission. A soft, purpose-designed brush lifts dirt through gentle contact rather than scrubbing, protecting that coating rather than working against it.

Why we don't pressure wash

High-pressure water can force its way under panel seals and frame edges, the opposite of what you want on a system you're trying to protect. We use controlled, low-pressure water-fed pole systems instead.

The SolVivo Assessment Standard

Before we clean, what we're looking for

Every visit starts with a visual check, before a single panel is touched.

Cracked or damaged glass Heavy or uneven soiling Bird activity or nesting Debris and construction dust Shading or obstruction Unusual staining Frame or mounting concerns Access & safety for the visit

We look for visible, physical things, not electrical faults. If we ever spot something that looks like it needs an electrician or your installer, we'll tell you and point you to them rather than touch it ourselves.

The full service

Six parts to every visit

Solar Care Assessment

Before a single panel is touched, we review every area for damage, soiling and performance concerns, always first.

Professional Panel Clean

Pure water, chemical-free, soft-brush contact designed to protect your panels and your roof.

Pre & Post Performance Readings

Output measured before we start and after we finish, in plain numbers where conditions allow.

Before & After Documentation

We photograph the overall array every visit. Any panel we flag as at risk, hot spots, cracks, damage or unusual staining, gets photographed individually and noted in your report as proof.

Full Detailed Reporting & Certificate

A complete written report plus your Certificate of Completion, sent straight to you after every visit.

Annual Care Contracts

We track your schedule and reach out ahead of time. No chasing, no admin, no forgotten visits.

Every installation is different

We plan around your setup

Villa rooftops

The majority of our residential work. Tile and slate roofs need careful footing and access planning.

Flat roofs

A different tilt angle changes how dust and water sit on the panel.

Ground-mounted arrays

Easier access, but often closer to garden dust, irrigation overspray and pollen.

Commercial rooftops

Larger arrays and often stricter access and safety requirements.
